Myself and a number of my cousins were blessed with my grandmother’s middle name: Odindo. This is a traditional, masculine name of the Luo tribe in Kenya associated with a person who has been “taken in” or “adopted”. In our household this name holds power; power to be selfless, nurturing and a quiet force. However, with great power comes (say it with me now) great responsibility.
